Welcome to Martin Luther King Jr. Day, dreamers and doers...

Today, Monday, Jan. 15, is MLK Day— a federal holiday honoring the life and legacy of the late civil rights leader.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is the only federal holiday designated as a “day of service.” Befitting the purpose-driven spirit of this day, we're highlighting some ways to take action. While some events are specific to this day, we've also included resources and organizations that you can access and support any day of the year.

Should there be more official "days of service"?

MLK Day 2024: A History of Civil Rights Legislation in America

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 -- the most significant civil rights legislation since Reconstruction. It prohibited the segregationist policies of the Jim Crow era that relegated Black Americans to separate schools, restaurants, restrooms, and drinking fountains.

How do you feel about the current state of civil rights in America?

Highlighting Environmental Racism and Climate Justice on MLK Day

Today, we want to honor Dr. King’s ongoing fight for racial equality by highlighting climate justice as a civil rights issue and providing resources for how you can help.

Support environmental and climate justice today and every day.

The Voting Rights Act of 1965

The Voting Rights Act of 1965 was enacted to guarantee the rights of racial minority groups, particularly Black Americans.

The VRA was a landmark piece of legislation that allowed for direct federal efforts to increase Black voter registration in areas where it was suppressed and prohibited the use of practices like poll taxes and literacy tests by states in an effort to restrict voting.

How do you feel about voting rights in 2024?

And, in the end...

How will you honor King's legacy today?
