Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. bravely fought to end racial injustice in America and pushed us all to do more in the pursuit of equality. In his “I Have a Dream” speech, he laid out a just vision for our nation — one where a person’s opportunity is determined not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.
As we remember the life and legacy of Dr. King today, we should celebrate the progress we’ve made as a country. But we must also take a step back and recognize the hard and important work that’s still ahead of us.
We are still in the process of creating a more perfect Union. Racism continues to permeate our society — creating disparities in education, housing, and health care.
And today, our sacred right to vote is more threatened than at any time since the Civil Rights movement.
Voting, Dr. King once said, was America's “sacred right,” and that to deny this right would constitute a “tragic betrayal of the highest mandates of our democratic tradition.”
Right-wing state lawmakers across the country, inspired by Donald Trump’s Big Lie, have introduced hundreds of voter suppression bills. Over a dozen states have already passed legislation making it harder for Americans to vote and participate in our democratic process. The Supreme Court continues to gut the Voting Rights Act.
Dr. King reminds us that our country is made rich by acts of service both large and small. So today, I’m asking you to join me in taking action by demanding that Congress pass comprehensive voting rights legislation now >> [[link removed]]

Dr. King knew his ultimate dream wouldn’t be achieved in his lifetime, but he carried a profound hope that our country would continue bending the arc toward justice. It is up to all of us to continue that cause.
I’m so grateful I can count on you to join me in this fight.
Thank you,
Mikie
