Today we remember what it means to fight for justice

Friend,
Today we solemnly remember the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Dr. King taught us the power of nonviolent protests and how to maintain a heart full of love in the face of overwhelming hatred and bigotry.
I am inspired by the work that continues to be done to advance justice and equality for all people. Though we have made progress, sadly, the divisions in our society persist to this day – and it will take all of us contributing to end discrimination wherever it exists.
Many people and communities honor Dr. King's legacy through service by taking a "day on, not off." Clearly, community service is something that is important in today's world. I appreciate the friends and neighbors across our district who share their time, talent, and treasure to make our neighborhoods better, our communities friendlier, and who collectively respect and pay tribute to Dr. King today and every day.
In respect and love,
Anthony Portantino
