Today is the day that Trump begins cementing his place as the presidential nominee for the Republican Party.

Unless there is an absolutely unprecedented upset tonight, Trump will begin accumulating delegates in Iowa.

A lot of smart people have not come around to the most likely outcome yet: That Trump and Biden will go head to head once again, with the fate of our democracy hanging in the balance.

The sooner we accept that, the better. Because we need to beat Trump.

The man who lied more than 30,000 times as president. Who refused to honor fallen Americans in a World War 1 cemetery in France. Who called Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice, Americans who were wounded in combat, “suckers” and “losers.” Who has promised to weaponize the federal government, the Department of Justice, and the Military against his political opponents.

The man who would shred our Constitution, destroy our democracy, and remake America in his loathsome image.

That guy.
