john,

Today, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. - a civil rights icon who dedicated his life to the pursuit of liberty and justice for all Americans.

Working alongside activists like Bayard Rustin, my late colleague John Robert Lewis, and many others, Dr. King led the March on Washington 60 years ago. Thanks to their organizing efforts, more than 250,000 people stood in solidarity to support his dream — of equal rights, representation, and freedoms for ALL Americans regardless of race. This led to the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, marking a dramatic step forward in our nation's history where communities of color finally had equal representation at the ballot box.

In the decades since that historic March on Washington and the progress that came with it, we have made some incredible strides. We have also suffered some major setbacks that prove our work is far from over. MAGA Republicans are now pushing to further erode our rights and freedoms, including the right to vote in free and fair elections.

As your congresswoman, I am committed to making Dr. King's vision for America a reality. All Americans deserve justice, equality, and the right to live free from discrimination, regardless of the color of their skin, their gender, their religion, or who they love.

Today, in taking time to honor Dr. King's legacy, I hope you'll join me in doing the same.

Thank you,

Kim
