Today, we’re honoring the extraordinary life and valuable work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Dr. King’s powerful commitment to fighting for justice for all and a future free of prejudice is the reason we have many of the rights we enjoy today. But the fight isn’t over. Oppression still exists in many forms in this country, but together, we’re determined to secure justice and progress.

For decades, extremist Republicans have constantly threatened and attacked the rights of marginalized communities. Recently, they’ve become hell-bent on undermining our democracy and stripping millions of Americans of what Dr. King worked so hard to secure: the right to vote.

Right here in Arizona, in 2022, Republicans carried out fraudulent voter-roll purges that put thousands of eligible voters’ registration status in jeopardy. Dozens of lawsuits have been filed here against voter suppression laws that target communities of color, new citizens, those who don’t speak English, and Native Americans.

In the spirit of Dr. King, we’re fighting back.

In 2023, Arizona Democratic Party’s organizers registered hundreds of Arizonans from all walks of life to vote. 2024 is an election year — that means we’re going to need boots on the ground across the state to register even more voters and set a record for voter turnout. 

It won’t be an easy fight, but we can do it together. Every Arizonan and every American deserves to have their voice heard and their vote counted.
