Today, I’m reflecting on Dr. Martin Luther King’s commitment to voting rights and the ways we are all tasked with carrying his legacy forward.

Our nation’s history is the story of expanding voting rights to groups that had been historically left out and held back: Black people, women, young people, and more. For our nation to fulfill its true promise, we must continue on this path and ensure that every eligible voter is able to cast a ballot that counts.

Voter ID laws are part of a broad, well-funded, and deliberate effort to block millions of Americans from the voting booth. Confusing, complicated, and onerous voter ID requirements aren’t about security at the ballot box, they’re about blocking voters from accessing it.

Unfortunately, in 2024, more Americans than ever before live in a state with a voter ID law. VoteRiders works directly with voters to overcome these barriers and ensure that every eligible American can cast a ballot that counts through voter ID education and assistance. You are a part of this vital work. 

Dr. King was determined to fulfill the promise of America and create a democracy that serves every American. The foundation was voting rights for all. You can help us in this mission. Join us for our upcoming Letter Writing Party this Thursday, January 18 at 7pm ET / 4pm PT.

Together, we’ll write letters to voters in Texas and North Carolina who need important information about what kind of ID they’ll need in order to vote. And if they don’t have the required form of ID, VoteRiders will help them obtain it, free of charge.
