Johh,

Today, we celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his immense contributions to the civil rights movement. He was a fearless activist who dreamed of an America where we could all enjoy our fundamental rights and live fulfilling lives.

The fundamental rights that are fundamental to our country have always been conditional or even nonexistent for Black Americans. No person in the United States should have to fight for justice and equality, yet our history – and our present – proves there has never been a time when Black Americans haven’t had to fight for their rights.

In the spirit of Dr. King, we must acknowledge our country's deeply shameful history, confront our own privilege, and actively contribute to a better future. Today is not just a day of celebration and remembrance but an opportunity for radical action. Dr. King's teachings remind us to embrace a life of love and service to others.

Today, I encourage you to celebrate by amplifying Black voices, buying from Black-owned businesses, donating to racial justice funds, and uplifting policies that herald equality. It's up to all of us to do our part and commit to building a better future for everyone in the image of Dr. King's dream.

Thank you,

Diana
