Friend, I’m a born-and-raised Coloradan. I grew up in a working class family that faced a lot of challenges. And now, I’m in Congress to fight for regular families like mine and Colorado communities in every way possible.
Growing up, my family never had it easy. But because my community made important, necessary investments in public education, I became the first person in my family to graduate from high school and college. I started working at 12 years old cleaning houses — then bagged groceries, worked at a bagel shop and waited tables to put myself through school — all to have a chance to earn a better life. But today, far too many of the opportunities that were open to me have only become further out-of-reach for many Colorado families. That’s exactly why I first decided to run for Congress over two years ago: I want to ensure that Coloradans today and tomorrow have the same opportunities to succeed that I did, and more. And whether it’s taking on the cost of higher education, supporting our public schools, or creating an economy that works for everyone, I’m proud of what I’ve helped accomplish — but I also know there’s still so much work to be done.
