FL-27 Newsletter Vol. 118, Issue #47 Dear Friends/Amigos, We're off to a running start here in Washington, D.C.! In my first week back, I have introduced a new bill to protect all Americans from bad actors who are abusing Artificial Intelligence (AI) to recreate someone's likeness or voice without their permission. I also wanted to remind you about my office's webinars with representatives from the IRS on Tuesday, January 16 (English version) and on Thursday, January 18 (Spanish version). You can register here for the January 16 session, and here for the January 18 session. We look forward to seeing you! Sincerely/Atentamente, MarĂa Elvira Salazar U.S. Representative (FL-27) I INTRODUCED THE NO AI FRAUD ACT! Artificial intelligence has the power to revolutionize our economy for the better, but bad actors always find a way to take something good and to twist it for their own personal gain. Artists like Bad Bunny and The Weeknd are having their voices stolen and made into AI-generated music that even ends up getting submitted for a Grammy award. Creeping intellectual property violations like these threaten artists' and our own ability to express ourselves creatively. My first bill of the year offers a solution to this problem. The United States would establish a right to your voice and your likeness, and you have the right to sue to protect them. Everyone from the average American to famous pop stars will have legal rights to a crucial part of themselves: their identity. More on the No AI FRAUD Act here. SOUTH FLORIDA'S CRIME IS HISTORICALLY LOW. THAT'S A VICTORY FOR MIAMI SMALL BUSINESSES! The House Small Business Committee held a hearing examining the effect crime has on small businesses and their bottom line. Communities across the country are facing rising crime thanks to far-left prosecutors who refuse to keep the streets they claim to defend clear of criminals. This is not how we operate in Miami and the State of Florida. Thanks to our pro-police and tough-on-crime policies, crime rates in our neighborhoods are at a historic low. Watch my line of questioning at the Small Business Committee hearing here. PRESIDENT BIDEN MUST HELP ECUADOR ELIMINATE THE GANG THREAT! Ecuador is in a fight for its life as gangs and criminals threaten to bring chaos and bloodshed to a nation historically recognized as peaceful. The world watched in horror on Tuesday as gangs rushed into a news station in Guayaquil to protest President Daniel Noboa's tough-on-crime policy. Not long after, I sent a letter to the Biden Administration to ask him to support President Noboa with intelligence to help the authorities locate these criminals and small arms and ammunition to help eliminate the threat for good. The United States cannot allow our ally and trading partner to fall victim to gangs and criminals who only seek to bring their chaos — including to our Southern Border.
