Angus King for U.S. Senate Campaign

Hi from Mary.

Believe it or not, today is our 40th anniversary!

Angus King and Mary Herman

You may already know him as a senator; today is my chance to talk about Angus as a dad, a grandfather, and a husband.

I first met Angus when I was working as a lobbyist in the 110th Maine Legislature. We were enthusiastic to share with each other our passion for making sure the needs of Maine’s children and families were heard at the State House.

Yes, 40 years ago I observed how deeply Angus cares about and wants to work to improve the lives of individuals and families in Maine. He even asked me to join him on Maine Watch. I knew I had met someone special.

Two children (I was honored to be the stepmother to three boys), four daughters-in-law, and seven grandchildren later… I am still and every day inspired by Angus’ tireless work ethic and deep commitment to the values and principles that define Maine people. He never hesitates to roll up his sleeves and talk with Maine people about what matters, and then tackle issues most important to them.

I tell people every day that I am in awe of how hard he works and how deep he digs to find solutions and allies in the Senate.

Angus exemplifies dedication and focus in every aspect of his life. I couldn’t be more proud watching him lead by example, and yes, demonstrating for our children and grandchildren the importance of standing up for what one believes and hopefully making a difference.

While being a US Senator carries with it the expectation of long hours, late nights, and time away from home, I understand he always wants to get it right. His desire to create a better future for our children and grandchildren — all Maine children and families — is one of the things I love most about Angus.

Thank you again for reading and allowing me to share a bit more about the man I love. Here’s to many more anniversaries to come!

With gratitude and warm thanks,

Mary

PS. Now that we’re officially in election year 2024, Angus needs your support to ensure he can keep up his work in the Senate on behalf of all Maine people. If you’re able, please pitch in anything you can to help fuel his re-election campaign and keep Maine moving forward.
