John,
How are you settling in to 2024? Whether you've been crushing it on the New Year New Me habits, are carrying on business as usual, or already have a bunch of scribbled-out pages in your fancy new planner I hope you're being kind to yourself; there's a whole year ahead of us with plenty of chances to learn and grow and make our communities a better place to live. It's done my heart good this week to see the representatives we fought for going to work in Arlington and in Richmond, and I'm looking forward to seeing what we accomplish together this year.
A few things on the horizon: our January happy hour is this Wednesday at 7:00 PM at Highline RxR! This is a great way to make connections with local Young Democrats and get to know our new executive board (including ✨ yours truly ✨), so I hope to see you there!
And once you've made connections and are excited to learn where you can roll up your sleeves and start solving problems, the week after is the AYD caucus Re-Org Meeting on January 23rd at Central Library in Ballston. This is where you can learn about all our different policy caucuses and see what conversations resonate with you that you'd like to join in on. This is a key meeting to learn about and influence the direction we take and you don't want to miss it.
A little further out (but it'll be here before you know it), the VAYD convention is Richmond this year from April 12-14th, and if you want to be part of our covered block, signups close March 22nd! We're shooting to cover the registration and housing of the first 20 AYD (dues paying) members who sign up, so please head over to this form to mark your interest and get more details if you want to connect with Young Dems from all over Virginia and influence the direction of the larger org!
Finally, as we observe the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr this weekend, please consider looking through this list of service projects in Arlington looking for volunteers to observe the MLK day of service that the Leadership Center for Excellence is hosting at Washington-Liberty High School. You're doing great! Check out our upcoming events and more: |
