VIDEO OF THE DAY: Trump makes huge mistake, puts his candidacy at risk
The disgraced ex-president just can't seem to keep his mouth shut — and he keeps digging himself a deeper hole. Overturning Roe v. Wade was deeply unpopular on both sides of the aisle, but for him, it's one more "accomplishment" he can take credit for — not caring it'll come back to haunt him.

How Nikki Haley helped Boeing kill a dark money disclosure initiative
As Boeing crashes back into the news for their shoddy quality control after a 737 Max 9 plane had a midflight fuselage blowout with 177 passengers on board, it's come to light that then-board member Nikki Haley helped kill an initiative in 2020 designed to compel the company to more comprehensively disclose its spending to influence politicians and safety regulators. In the wake of two devastating 737 Max crashes that killed 346 people in 2018 and 2019, Boeing's shareholders tried to force the company to be more transparent about its lobbying efforts, suspecting the jet manufacturer of having bought themselves relaxed Federal Aviation Administration oversight — which, of course, they had. Boeing spends outrageous sums of money to buy itself safety exemptions, having dropped more than $10.6 million in the first three quarters of 2023 alone. When it comes to corporate America, profits will always, always take precedence over literally everything else, including the lives of its customers.

Friendly fire may have killed their relatives on Oct. 7. These Israeli families want answers now
The families of 13 Israeli civilians killed during a battle between the IDF and murderous terror group Hamas during the latter group's Oct. 7 attacks are demanding a full military investigation from the government as new information indicates that their family members were killed by indiscriminate IDF tank fire, not by Hamas. The IDF has promised a full investigation after the war is over, but the families fear valuable evidence could be lost as the war — now in its fourth month — drags on with no end in sight. Their fears are bolstered by the revelation that 1/5th of all IDF combat deaths in Gaza have been caused by friendly fire, the IDF's killing of three escaped hostages who were carrying a white flag, and the December declaration that the Israeli army believes it would not be "morally sound" to investigate incidents of friendly fire that occurred on October 7, according to the Israeli media outlet Yedioth Ahronot. All of that adds up to some very uncomfortable questions that the IDF needs to answer without further delay.

22 years, 4 presidents, and just 1 conviction later, dozens still jailed at Guantánamo
Yet another presidency is passing with no action taken to put an end to one of America's most disgraceful injustices — the illegal prison camp at Guantánamo Bay, where 30 prisoners still remain incarcerated despite having never been charged with any crimes. Known as "Gitmo," the Bush-era gulag remains a symbol of the worst excesses of the Bush-Cheney administration, which oversaw horrifying human rights abuses perpetrated by American forces and officials who routinely tortured suspected terrorists and violated basically every principle the United States is supposed to stand for. Scores of human rights groups have signed an open letter to the Biden administration this week demanding the prison be closed, but sadly, President Biden appears to have little appetite for doing anything about it. "More than half of those who remain are men the United States itself does not believe need to be detained," the Center for Constitutional Rights said in a statement. "The fact that they continue to languish after two decades is a cruelty that could end tomorrow." This grave injustice is yet another glaring example of how deeply entrenched dehumanizing Islamophobic sentiment is in the US national security establishment.
