Survival Sunday: January 14, 2024

Happy weekend, friends!

Survival Sunday is a personal note and a round-up of the week's news
and resources for folks who are interested in being prepared. This
curated collection of information is only available to email and Patreon
subscribers.

A PERSONAL NOTE

 

Happy Polar Vortex!

Wait...I guess it's not a holiday.

Most of the country can expect to experience extremely cold weather this
week, and it's already begun here in North Carolina. Now I am aware that
"bitterly cold" in North Carolina is a lot different than "bitterly
cold" in say, Iowa or Minnesota. But when your weather is considerably
colder than normal for your region, it's still a bit of a shock to the
system, right?

I currently live in an apartment that is utilities paid but this also
means I do not control the climate. Since my landlord is upstairs, I
don't get the rising heat and I have to use a lot of strategies from
when I've lived in other chilly places. I'm bundled up in sweaters and
scarves, I have cozy slippers on my feet, there's a fluffy blanket on my
lap, and I have a tiny space heater that works nicely to take the chill
off first thing in the morning. On days like this, I plan meals that
cook in the oven to help make things cozy - today, I'm making a lasagna
loaded with all sorts of delicious veggies, meat, ricotta cheese, and
hearts of palm pasta. My daughter is coming over later to have a late
lunch with me and I'll have plenty to send home with her.

(The book is LOADED with photos I took when I was living in Athens, and
I think it adds to the story to be able to see the setting. Plus it's a
sneaky way to make people look at my travel pictures. Hahaha.) We have
more great things coming every weekend - printable prepper puzzles, more
fiction by 1stMarineJarHead, and some book and movie reviews. We're
preppers who know how to have a good time!

I think we're living through times right now that will feature heavily
in the history books - assuming we are able to have free speech in the
future. We're facing historic economic downturns, war on a potentially
massive scale, a shockingly bad political situation, and terrifying new
technology that could change everything. That much intensity is bound to
take a toll on people, especially folks like us, who keep abreast of the
events and try to look deeper than the Establishment Media wants us to.
We must use every strategy in our repertoire to stay healthy mentally
and physically throughout this. Good food, good times, and good people
are all the antidotes.

How to Feed Your Family No Matter What

Having something to eat isn't guaranteed.
