Hi John,

I hope you and your family are staying safe during this pandemic.

Coronavirus has really laid bare how feeble our social safety net is. Countless workers face possible bankruptcy because of not being able to work, sick people will forgo testing and treatment because they can’t afford it, and coronavirus has made it to our homeless neighbors in Tacoma, who are battling the virus while sleeping on the streets.

That’s why I’m so disappointed with the response of Rep. Derek Kilmer and other corporate Democrats like him. They have enabled GOP policies that contributed to this lack of preparedness. I’m running to solve the problems facing working people like you, not the super rich and powerful.

[If you’re able to donate without it causing your family any hardship, could you donate now? Our campaign is 100% remote now, which costs a lot more money, because phone banking and digital ads are expensive. Any amount you can give is a huge help. Thank you.]

In this crisis:

  • Future tax credits don’t suffice. People need cash payments NOW.

  • Small business loans don’t suffice. The federal government needs to pay for small businesses’ payroll, so workers and businesses can survive.

  • Providing “guidance” and “information” to medical manufacturers doesn’t suffice. We need to use the Defense Production Act to ramp up American manufacturing of tests and medical supplies.

Tepid responses don’t cut it. Sadly, Trump is outflanking corporate Democrats from the left, proposing Bernie Sanders’ coronavirus policies.

It’s ridiculous and tragic.

If a global pandemic isn’t enough to shake corporate Democrats out of their austerity-obsessed stupor, what is?

I’m running for Congress because I believe in bold solutions. Solutions like Medicare for All and a Homes Guarantee that would have made this crisis so much more livable for so many people. Can you donate now to help me get to Congress and fight for them there?

Our campaign has been busy responding to the pandemic. Here are some updates:

✅ We were the first congressional campaign in the country to suspend canvassing, because the safety of the residents of our district is paramount. Following this, campaigns around the country suspended their canvassing as well. This leadership got us noticed by The Nation, and you can read that article here.

✅ We’re calling on the City of Tacoma to provide greater protections for residents during this crisis. Sign our petition here.

✅ We changed our in-person meet & greet at a senior home to a virtual one, and had some great conversations! This is what meeting with voters looks like during a pandemic:

✅ We’re asking all residents of Washington’s 6 Congressional District to call Derek Kilmer with the following requests. His office number in DC is (202) 225-5916. If you live in WA-06, please call Derek Kilmer with these requests:

1) Include gig workers, freelancers, domestic workers, and the self-employed in unemployment benefits.
2) Give every American $2,000 every month until the crisis is over.
3) Pay businesses’ payroll until the crisis is over.
4) Ban evictions and foreclosures.
5) Freeze rents and mortgages at their current levels.
6) Use the Defense Production Act to ramp up American manufacturing of tests and medical supplies.
7) Provide universal, free health care for all during the crisis. (And support Medicare for All!)
8) Buy, rent, or construct emergency housing for all homeless people in America.

Thank you for your support, John. Stay safe.
