South Asia
Pray for wisdom and energy as IJM launches several key studies in the new year. We will be evaluating the prevalence of human trafficking and the government’s response in new program areas. Pray for safety for the investigators and study enumerators as they travel vast distances and into dangerous areas. Ask God to guide our eyes so we get a true picture of the nature of trafficking today.
Africa & Europe
Pray for the IJM Kenya team and partners as they begin implementing the next phase of their program to protect women and children from violence. The Kenya team worked for many years supporting child survivors of sexual violence in Nairobi, and more recently has run a program addressing sex trafficking on the Kenya Coast. This next phase of the program takes the learnings from previous work, as well as partner and survivor insights, to design interventions that will address existing gaps and needs. For example, operationalizing specialized courts, ensuring justice system actors are trained in trauma-informed care, that there are child friendly spaces available for victims, and that communities understand how to report cases. The team begins with a strong foundation; pray with us for
courage and partner buy-in to scale protection for many more women and children.
Latin America
Pray for wisdom as IJM begins the implementation of a project with the Honduran Public Justice System. IJM is supporting several justice institutions with software and training that will shorten the time dedicated to handling complaints filed by women and children who have suffered violence. Please pray that God will help the implementation run smoothly and that the officials interact with the new system will see its benefits and commit to the protection of women and children in Honduras.
Asia Pacific
Praise God for justice prevailing in the case of an abusive employer sentenced to 10 years in prison for trafficking a minor. Nway*, orphaned at eight, was trafficked for domestic work and forced to endure physical and verbal abuse. With support, she escaped and is now safe in an IJM-funded shelter. IJM Myanmar and legal partners are pursuing criminal charges under Myanmar's trafficking law, which has already led to the arrest and 10-year sentencing of Nway's trafficker last week.
