Today we're highlighting something a little different: music! Cécile McLorin Salvant is a Haitian-American jazz vocalist. In 2016, her album, For One to Love, received a Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album in 2016. The album's songs focus attention on strong women and independence. Two years later, her album Dreams and Daggers won a Grammy in the same category.
Her most recent album, titled Mélusine, explores the European folk legend of Melusine and largely features songs sung in French and Haitian Creole.
You can listen to her music on Spotify, Apple Music, or Youtube. You can click HERE to see her Tiny Desk Concern with NPR, or HERE for her recent performance at the MET Cloisters.
