Here’s the thing, I never thought I would run for office. Growing up, I wanted to be just like my dad, who was an athlete and a U.S. Air Force Veteran. I played football and earned an athletic scholarship that sent me to college. (I was pretty good, but being 6-foot-7 sure didn’t hurt!)

But wearing a football uniform taught me something special: it gave me purpose and made me feel a part of something bigger than myself.

So when I put on my Capitol police uniform for the first time over 15 years ago to protect our nation’s Capitol, it felt right.

But I never thought I’d see the day that our democracy would be attacked by Donald Trump and an army of insurrectionists that HE directed to the Capitol.

I couldn't have been any closer to the chaos of January 6. I put my life on the line during the violence and destruction that Trump encouraged. So trust and believe when I tell you: we cannot allow our democracy to be in the hands of these MAGA-extremists.

I fought for our democracy and our Capitol once as Officer Dunn, and I'll do it again as Congressman Dunn.
