Hi team, First and most important, I hope everyone is continuing to stay safe. The CDC has the most up-to-date information on what you can be doing to protect yourself and your families and do your part to stop the spread of this virus. I want to let you know that yesterday, I learned that I tested positive for COVID-19. My family and I are fully quarantined and following the CDC’s guidelines to a “T” to make sure we don’t put anyone else at risk. I’ll be honest: I’m feeling pretty bad right now. But this morning, I went on the TODAY show to talk about my symptoms, because it’s important that we keep sharing information. I hope you’ll take a moment to watch: It’s important for you to know that I’m continuing to do my work to serve the people of Utah from my quarantine. People are counting on Congress for real, immediate action to get us through this national emergency, and I will keep working to make sure our families get the health care and economic relief that they need. I will also continue working to expand the availability of testing. The first time I consulted my doctor, I was told my symptoms weren’t bad enough to qualify for testing. I’m fortunate to be able to work from home and self-quarantine, but too many people aren’t. It shouldn’t be the case that symptoms need to be that bad before we can justify a test. That’s why I’ve voted for more funding to expand testing, at no cost for those getting the test. Thank you for taking the time to read this email and everything you’re doing to stop this outbreak by staying inside and practicing social distancing. Julie and I would also like to thank everyone for their outpouring of support on social media and elsewhere after I announced my test results. It means the world to know you’re thinking of us during a tough time for everyone. I will continue to keep you updated on my personal progress and the progress we’re making in Congress. In the meantime, stay safe! All my best, -Ben |
