John, towards the end of last year, a Texan woman named Kate Cox received the heartbreaking news that the pregnancy she was carrying was nonviable — there was a lethal fetal anomaly.
Continuing the pregnancy would not only impact her future fertility, but would also put the mother of two’s life at risk. But because Kate lived in Texas, which has a near-total ban on abortion, her doctors refused to perform an abortion. She received a court order that would have allowed her to terminate her pregnancy, but it was overruled by Texas’ Supreme Court. Ultimately, Kate had to leave Texas to seek the necessary and life-saving medical care.
As abortion bans threaten to become reality in states across our country, thousands of people will be put in difficult and life-threatening situations just like Kate’s. We’ve got to act now and stand up for the right to safe and accessible reproductive healthcare.

The abortion bans proposed by extremist Republicans across the country are inhumane and dangerous. They infringe on our right to make our own deeply personal medical decisions and will put hundreds of thousands of people in difficult situations. The overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022’s Dobbs v. Jackson case has set civil rights in America back by decades.
