Friend,
We have made exciting progress on the Pregnant Students' Rights Act – legislation included in my Providing For Life Act – the comprehensive pro-family legislation I unveiled with Senator Marco Rubio last year. This vital pro-life legislation passed the House Education and Workforce Committee this week, and I’m hopeful it will continue to move forward.
Navigating college can be difficult for pregnant students. In many cases, women are pressured to end their pregnancies or risk academic failure, despite protections. Women should never have to choose between continuing their education or carrying their babies to full term. Rather, they should feel empowered and supported in creating the best future possible for both themselves and their child. My bill ensures all college students who are pregnant or may become pregnant know their rights, including the availability of modified class schedules, excused absences, and childcare assistance.
Women shouldn't have to choose between receiving their diplomas and becoming mothers. I'll continue working on legislation that supports new mothers and provides resources for families so that we can have as many healthy and happy moms and babies as possible.
