Dear neighbor,

As we head into Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend, we honor the life and legacy of one of our nation’s greatest leaders. Dr. King dreamed of an America where all people, regardless of race or ethnicity, are truly equal under the law. Each day that I serve alongside my colleagues in Congress I strive to make this dream a reality. Read my full statement here.

This past week in Congress has shown us that it's a new year, but the same chaos, crisis, and confusion from House Republicans. As Democrats returned to Washington this week ready to work on moving the American family forward, the extreme MAGA majority instead focused on political games. There is just one week until our government shuts down. The majority should be focused on passing spending bills to ensure the federal government remains open.

Instead, this week the Republican majority held not one but two committee hearings about Hunter Biden. While American families are counting on us to pass legislation to lower prices and create jobs, the do-nothing extreme MAGA Republicans are playing political games. CONTINUING OUR WORK ON ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE: This week I introduced the bipartisan and bicameral Federal Artificial Intelligence Risk Management Act. If enacted, this bill would require federal agencies and vendors to follow the AI risk management guidelines established by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

In order to ensure that Americans are safe from the risks associated with AI, we need a coordinated government approach to responsibly harness AI’s power. I remain committed to working with my colleagues in Congress on this pressing issue.

PHOTO OF THE WEEK: House Democrats are ready to continue our work to counter MAGA extremism and move the American family forward. Caucus Chairman Pete Aguilar (D-CA) and I held our weekly press conference to share some of our accomplishments from the last year. Watch the whole press conference here

DELIVERING FOR AMERICA’S SENIORS: Social Security is a sacred promise to America’s seniors who have earned their retirement through decades of hard work. This vital program is now facing attacks from extreme MAGA Republicans who want to slash Social Security and send countless American seniors into poverty. Democrats won’t let that happen.

I’m pleased to support Congressman John Larson’s Social Security 2100 Act, which would enhance Social Security benefits and protect the program for generations to come. I joined Congressman Larson on the House Floor this week to speak in favor of protecting and strengthening Social Security to take care of our seniors. Watch my full remarks here
