I hope you had a restful holiday season and that your new year is off to a great start! In 2024, I'm looking to keep you better updated on what I'm working on in Congress and back home in Illinois. 

Despite the dysfunction created by my colleagues across the aisle, I'm committed to spending each day advocating for the issues that matter most to you.

1. Rep. Quigley Called for $75 Million in Security Funding for the 2024 DNC

This week, I led a bipartisan, bicameral letter to the House and Senate Appropriations Committees calling for the allocation of $150 million for the 2024 presidential candidate nominating conventions. Specifically, the letter asks that $75 million be dedicated to each host city to cover security costs. 

It is no secret that politically motivated attacks are on the rise, and this event will bring some of the highest profile political figures to our city. Therefore, I’m determined to exhaust all resources and ensure the DNC is a safe place for both attendees and Chicagoans. To view the letter, click HERE.

2. Rep. Quigley Signed a Discharge Petition to Keep Americans Safe

As Vice-Chair of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, I am determined to end the epidemic of gun violence in our nation. My colleagues and I are sick and tired of the inaction around this issue and are demanding change. 

This week, I signed a discharge petition in support of the Keep Americans Safe Act, H.R.625. This bill would ban the import, sale, manufacture, transfer, or possession of high-capacity gun magazines that hold more than 15 rounds of ammunition. Should the discharge petition reach 218 signatures, it would force leadership to bring this bill to the floor for a vote and address the gun violence epidemic head on.

Large capacity magazines have been used by mass shooters in Uvalde, Parkland, Las Vegas, and beyond. Ultimately, large capacity magazines have no place on our streets. If successful, this discharge petition would ban them and keep our communities safe.

On Wednesday, I joined CNN to discuss the House Oversight Committee's meeting to hold Hunter Biden in contempt as well as conservative's effort to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. I also weighed in on the urgent need to fully fund the government before the upcoming deadline and send critical aid to our allies.
