Message from National NOW President Christian F. Nunes
January 12, 2024
Greetings Feminists,
Human trafficking manifests in various forms, including sex trafficking, forced labor, and involuntary servitude. Women and girls, especially those from marginalized communities, are most vulnerable to this horrible crime. The dangerous impact of social media and the internet exacerbates the problem, providing traffickers with platforms and gateways to exploit and coerce their victims.
In combating human trafficking, advocacy organizations and service-based agencies must adopt trauma-informed and survivor-based strategies and policies. First, amplifying survivor voices is necessary and not optional. By providing survivors with platforms to share their stories, we empower them and raise awareness about the realities of trafficking. Secondly, promoting collaboration among organizations, governments, and communities is essential. Building strong networks enables a more comprehensive approach to prevention, intervention, and support for survivors.
As we observed National Human Trafficking Awareness Day this week, let us continue to unite in our commitment to eradicating this grave injustice. Our collective strength lies in our unity and commitment to justice. Together, let us confront the scourge of human trafficking and strive for a world where every woman and girl can live free from the chains of exploitation.
In solidarity,
Christian
