Lee Advocates for Top Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) Priorities

Nickel-Backed Bill to Hold China Accountable Passes House ([link removed])
This week, Rep. Wiley Nickel's (NC-13) legislation to hold China accountable, the China Exchange Rate Transparency Act of 2023 (H.R.839 ([link removed]) ), passed on the floor of the House of Representatives with overwhelming bipartisan support. The bill, which previously passed through the House Financial Services Committee with Nickel as co-lead, requires the US Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to use America’s voice and vote to advocate for increased transparency and enhanced surveillance of China’s exchange rate policies.
Taiwan Caucus Co-Chairs Introduce Bipartisan Resolution in Support of Democracy in Taiwan ([link removed])
New Dem Reps. Ami Bera (CA-06) and Gerry Connolly (VA-11) introduced H.Res.955 ([link removed]) , a bipartisan resolution commending Taiwan for its history of democratic elections and expressing support for Taiwan’s democratic institutions. Introduction of the resolution comes ahead of Taiwan’s elections on January 13, 2024, the eighth presidential election and tenth legislative elections since Taiwan began its transition to democracy.
Strickland Leads Bipartisan Military Firefighter PFAS Compensation Bill ([link removed])
Rep. Marilyn Strickland (WA-10) introduced H.R.6946 ([link removed]) , a bipartisan bill that establishes a compensation fund for military firefighters to provide for timely, uniform, and adequate compensation to current and former military firefighters and, survivors, suffering from illnesses acquired during service and due to exposure to PFAS.
Salinas, Blumenthal Introduce Bicameral Bill to Combat Gambling Addiction, Promote Treatment ([link removed])
Rep. Andrea Salinas (OR-06) and U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) introduced the Gambling addiction Recovery, Investment, and Treatment (GRIT) Act (H.R.6982 ([link removed]) ) legislation that would create the first-ever federal funding stream dedicated to helping prevent, treat, and study gambling addiction in the United States.
Trone, Moore, Dean, Moran Introduce Legislation to Ensure Returning Citizens Receive Valid Government Identification ([link removed])
New Dem Reps. David Trone (MD-06) and Madeleine Dean (PA-04) introduced H.R.6985 ([link removed]) , a bipartisan bill to ensure all eligible individuals leave prison with a valid form of government identification. Right now, 40,000 people are released from federal prison every year, yet half leave custody without a valid government ID, and more than 75 percent don’t have a photo ID.
