Back in D.C. after the holiday... Washington, D.C. - Last week, I toured a North Texas LA Fitness and discussed opportunities to reform Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), including to allow Americans to use their HSA to purchase gym memberships. Then, I met with the presidents of Universal Technical Institute - Dallas/Fort Worth and Concorde Career College to discuss workforce solutions that will engage our young people in the trades. I appreciated hearing their perspectives and look forward to continue working together on this important issue. Later, I was honored to congratulate Officer Steve Rutherford for his more than 20 years of service in the Farmers Branch Police Department. I wish you the best in your retirement and I’m thankful for your work to keep our community safe! On Monday, I toured a KinderCare facility in Southlake. With over 30 locations in DFW and 1600 nationwide, KinderCare gives children from six weeks to 12 years old an important head start in their education. Thanks for letting me come by! After, I had a great time speaking with students at the Westwood School in Farmers Branch! I appreciated their questions about what it’s really like to be in Congress, how I work to represent their families, and how I balance my time in Washington, D.C. and Texas-24. Before returning to Washington, I toured Goff Davis' facilities in Euless to learn more about their manufacturing of F35 fighter jets. Thanks for the informative visit! On Wednesday, I had a great meeting with John, Carl, and Elisa of the Texas Department of Transportation. North Texas’ population is booming, which is why I appreciated discussing upcoming projects that will serve Texas-24 for years to come. I also had the honor of presiding over the House floor! Yesterday, I joined my Ways and Means colleagues to advance legislation that supports pregnancy centers and prevents the Biden Administration from defunding them. From prenatal vitamins to parenting courses, pregnancy centers are a tremendous resource for expecting mothers. You can learn more about my work to support women's health and pro-life values in the Work of the Week section below. Then, I joined my Committee on House Small Business colleagues for a hearing on how skyrocketing crime rates hurt America's small businesses. You can click on the photo below to watch my line of questioning. This morning, I joined my colleagues on both sides of the aisle in voting to pass H.J. Res 98 which overturns a Biden Administration rule that would hurt our job creators. I spoke on the House floor about how this rule harms Texas-24's franchise small businesses and how House Republicans are working to support pro-growth policies. You can watch my remarks by clicking on the photo below. Texas-24 Work of the Week This week, I joined my Committee on Ways and Means colleagues in defending pregnancy resource centers from a proposed Biden Administration rule that would cut their funding. I’m working to support these critical resources for expecting mothers, which provide assistance with everything from ultrasounds to diapers.
