Virginia General Assembly Update – Week 1

The 2024 General Assembly session began this Wednesday, January 10. Already, well over 2,000 bills and resolutions have been introduced. Legislators still have one week left to file legislation, so the total could be close to 3,000 by the time the dust settles. In the meantime, bill hearings have already begun!

Key alerts: Over these first few days of session, we have sent you two critical alerts – one on an extreme abortion amendment and one on assisted suicidePlease act now on both alerts if you have not done so already. Please share these alerts with family and friends too.

New text feature: Many of you have opted to receive our alerts via text. We are excited to bring this new feature to you and hope it has been useful thus far. If you have not opted in already, we encourage you to do so by texting “VACatholic” to 50457.

We also want to assure everyone in our network that – whether you elect to receive alerts via text or not – you will still continue to receive them via email, just as you always have. Also, some of you who did not sign up for text alerts have informed us that you were not able to send messages on our last two alerts without filling in a mobile phone number. If you encounter this situation, uncheck “Send me text alerts” in the “Enter Your Info” box. This will enable you to continue to take action on email alerts just as you always have in the past. Thank you again for participating in our network!

Virginia Pro-Life Day: Please plan to join thousands of pro-life advocates from across the state for Virginia Pro-Life Day on February 21 in Richmond. Meet with your legislators in the morning to urge them to protect life instead of expanding abortion.  Then join the rally and march for life at the state capitol. Learn more and register at www.vaprolifeday.org.
