82 Palestinian journalists and media workers have been confirmed killed in Gaza since October 7th and have experienced multiple assaults, threats, arrests, cyberattacks, censorship, and killings of family members. It must end NOW.

Sign the petition to demand an investigation into the targeted killings of journalists in Gaza NOW!

Dear MoveOn member,

Media and human rights organizations are sounding the alarms on the killing of journalists over the past three months of Netanyahu's campaign of indiscriminate bombardment in Gaza. By one estimate, 1 out of every 10 journalists in Gaza has been killed, making it the single-biggest death toll for journalists in a conflict zone in years.1,2

More than 82 Palestinian and media workers have been confirmed killed in Gaza since October 7, with dozens more injured, missing, or detained according to the Committee to Protect Journalists. Journalists reporting in Gaza have experienced multiple assaults, threats, arrests, cyberattacks, censorship, and killings of family members.3

These targeted killings, threats, and assaults must end NOW. Will you sign the petition to demand an investigation into the killing of journalists in Gaza?

Enough! We need an investigation into the targeted killings of journalists in Gaza NOW.

The stories of these deaths have been heartbreaking. Two months after finding out that his wife, son, daughter, and grandson were killed in an Israeli airstrike while he was delivering a live report, Wael Al Dahdouh, Al Jazeera Gaza bureau chief and one of the most recognized faces reporting from Gaza, lost a fifth family member this weekend. His son, Hamza Al Dahdouh, a 27-year-old journalist, was killed by an Israeli missile strike along with fellow journalist Mustafa Thuraya. They were traveling by car for an assignment in Southern Gaza, a designated safe area by the Israeli military, in order to interview civilians displaced by previous bombings.4,5

At his son's funeral, Wael Al Dahdouh said, "Hamza was not just part of me. He was the whole of me. He was the soul of my soul. These are tears of sadness, of loss. These are tears of humanity." Journalists and media workers like Wael Al Dahdouh have endured so much loss, suffering, grief, and trauma.

We have to come together to prevent more journalists from being killed in Gaza and to demand an investigation. Click here to add your name to the petition.

This is not the first case of a Palestinian journalist being unjustly targeted and killed while reporting from the Palestinian territories. Shireen Abu Akleh, a prominent Palestinian-American journalist, was killed in Jenin in 2022 by the IDF, which the Israeli government denied responsibility for until multiple findings by media and rights groups showed proof disputing the IDF's claims.6

Journalists wear a press vest meant to identify them in a conflict zone so that they're not unintentionally killed while accessing areas and events otherwise dangerous for civilians. However, multiple journalists reporting from Gaza and the West Bank openly expressed that the vests actually make them easier targets, some sharing they refuse to wear them out of safety concerns.7

The reality is that journalists are some of the only voices coming out of Gaza, often reporting on what the world wouldn't otherwise see or know.

This is why we must come together in solidarity with journalists in Gaza and demand an investigation into the targeted killings. Will you sign the petition?

Journalists must be protected. This is a core value of democracy and international human rights. Their objectivity and coverage don’t just bring the truth to light, they often provide the light necessary to help bring about an end to some of the darkest chapters in human history.

We must protect the freedom of the press and ensure that journalists are not targeted for reporting the truth.

Thanks for all you do.
