Hi John, As you know, there is no safe level of lead in our drinking water, but the EPA is making strides to remove lead pipes – and we need you to show your support.
Elevated blood lead levels in children are associated with hearing loss, lower IQs, developmental delays, behavioral changes, and mental health impacts like anxiety and depression. Wisconsin still has hundreds of thousands of service lines that contain lead or galvanized material spanning across nearly every corner of the state. These lead service lines endanger our communities, and contribute to the fact that, in some Wisconsin communities, as many as one in four children under six are considered lead poisoned.
But there’s good news! Thanks to Pres. Biden, the EPA is finalizing improvements to their Lead and Copper Rule. These improvements will increase lead testing and reporting requirements, and mandate that our communities remove their lead pipes within the next 10 years.
