John,
A majority of Americans, including 80% of Democrats, support a ceasefire. Yet the Biden administration continues to send bombs to the Israeli military in its campaign to wipe out the Palestinian people.
As U.S. officials contribute to dehumanization that’s hurting not just Palestinians in Gaza, but also Arab and Muslim Americans, we need allies in the federal government and in state houses across the country.
Illinois State Representative Abdelnasser Rashid is the first Palestinian American to serve in the Illinois legislature. And he’s facing attacks by his Democratic primary opponent for demanding a ceasefire now.
Last summer, while visiting family in the West Bank, Abdelnasser watched as, in his words, “a group of armed Israeli settlers invaded the village, torched an entire neighborhood, shot a bunch of people, killed a young man. All with the support of the Israel Defense Forces and the Israeli government that looked the other way even though these attacks had been advertised ahead of time.”
Rep. Rashid is a leader for human rights and we need him in office. He needs our support now to win his March Democratic primary.
Will you split a contribution of $5 or more to my and Rep. Abdelnasser Rashid’s re-election campaigns today to counter the attacks, and to power our movement for peace and human rights?
Abdelnasser is running for re-election in the midst of a rise in anti-Arab, Muslim, and Palestinian attacks in the United States and across the globe.
In October, 6-year-old Wadea Al-Fayoume was murdered in an anti-Palestinian hate crime in Abdelnasser’s community.
Abdelnassar attended Wadea’s funeral, noting that “the politicians and many in the media cheering on Israel's march toward genocide [has] created an environment of hate right here in America” that “directly led to this brutal murder.”
Abdelnasser is demanding that President Biden and members of Congress stop contributing to this hate, and instead recognize the humanity of Palestinians and join the vast majority of Americans in demanding an immediate and permanent ceasefire.
Rep. Rashid’s courage in speaking out―for our shared humanity and against apartheid, genocide, and the blockade depriving Gaza’s residents of essential survival needs like water―has made him a target in his fast-approaching March primary election.
Donate today to have Abdelnasser’s back as we raise the voices of our leaders and allies in our movement for peace and human dignity.
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your secure donation will go through immediately, split evenly between Rashida Tlaib and Abdelnasser Rashid
Whether in Congress or in State Houses across the country, let’s keep supporting our allies and demanding elected officials stop ignoring the humanity and the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people.
In solidarity,
Rashida
