It was great to be back in the classroom this week! Our team hosted a hunger simulation for 10th graders at Penn Charter as part of their ongoing studies on food insecurity. Our hunger simulations are interactive experiences designed to demonstrate the many barriers, challenges, and frustrations that people experiencing food insecurity face on a daily basis.
Thank you to Penn Charter for continuing to bring us into your classrooms to work with the students! This is just one of the many ways our team works to increase awareness of food insecurity throughout the Greater Philadelphia region.
Summer EBT (S-EBT): Pennsylvania has announced its intent to participate in Summer EBT in summer 2024, helping children maintain access to nutritious meals throughout the summer months. S-EBT is a new, permanent program that will provide eligible children with $120 for the summer, to provide an additional source of nutrition when kids miss out on free or reduced-price school meals. Pennsylvania estimates that 600,000 to 900,000 children will benefit from the state’s participation in S-EBT. We thank Pennsylvania for working to support children during the summer months and will share more information about the program as it becomes available!
WIC Needs You To Use Your Voice: WIC is facing a crisis. We need all of you to step up and speak out for Pennsylvania Women, Infants, and Children!
As we enter 2024, Congress is working to finalize a spending deal for the current fiscal year before the January 19th deadline. The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is facing an urgent funding crisis. We need you, TODAY, to contact your legislators in support of WIC!
Help Connect Students and Families to Food at the City's Community Schools
Volunteer with the Office of Children and Families to support grocery giveaways and food pantries at one of the City's 20 Community Schools and help provide free, healthy, fresh food to students and families. Volunteers commit at least 2 hours/week to support grocery giveaways and/or in-school pantries. Volunteers can support grocery giveaways including set-up and clean-up; unpack and organize food deliveries; and deliver fresh produce to schools in personal vehicles. To learn more, fill out the volunteer interest form. Questions? Contact: [email protected].
We strive to build a community where all people have the food they need to lead healthy lives. Hunger is preventable. Thank you for your continued support of our work!
