Dear John
Last year, government ministers were handed powers to unravel thousands of laws that help protect people and nature – without any input from voters or their MPs.
Even though the UK is one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world, ministers could wield these powers in 2024 in ways that threaten us and our natural world [1].
Our open letter tells ministers to spell out their plans, involve communities in any changes and make the laws protecting people and our natural world stronger.
I’ll be delivering our letter to all UK government department heads in 3 weeks’ time. Will you sign the letter before I hand it in?
