Today, Families USA and the No Surprises Coalition sent a letter urging Congressional leadership to act now and include surprise billing legislation as part of the “phase 3” coronavirus stimulus package.
Now is the time to ask members in the Senate and the House to act to protect families from surprise medical bills. Contact your Senators and House members this week to ask them to address surprise medical billing in the “phase 3” coronavirus response package.
Prior to the current health emergency, more than 10,000 families received a surprise bill each day. With coronavirus having reached a pandemic level, press is already reporting on the potential for large surprise medical bills in relation to COVID testing and care, including parents receiving thousands of dollars in bills for COVID-related screening and care for themselves and their children.
