Happy New Year! As we kick off 2024, I reflect on the hard work demonstrated by Young Democrats across the state. As we expand on our impact and build up young leaders, I could not be more proud of the dedication and success that has shone through. Now, we enter a new year with the continued opportunity to make a difference and advocate for issues that impact young people and our communities. I charge you to get involved and be the change you wish to see. We will continue to provide training, resources, and information on opportunities as we stand firm in our democratic values. On Thursday, January 4th, New Jersey joined the ranks of a select group of states that allow 17-year-olds to vote in elections! Signed by Governor Phil Murphy, the New Voter Empowerment Act allows voters who are 17 years old to vote in a primary election if they turn 18 before the general election in November. “At a time when our politics is polarized and when too many people stay home on Election Day, it is time to engage and empower a new generation of voters so that they may have a say in the future of our great state,” said Democratic Senator Andrew Zwicker, who first introduced this bill.
