Hi — I’m writing to you today with an urgent request because what is unfolding in Ohio right now is a true crisis.
Earlier this week, Governor Mike Dewine ordered state agencies to create new regulations that would require a team of specialists — including an endocrinologist, a mental health specialist, and a bioethicist — to approve gender-affirming care for all trans patients, including adults.
Here’s what’s potentially even worse: clinics and other places that provide gender-affirming care would be required to report their patients’ information to the state under the new orders.
Yesterday, Ohio Republican in the House voted to move forward a bill that would restrict both transition-related medical care for minors and transgender athletes' participation on school sports teams. It is anticipated to pass in the Republican-held Senate.
The ACLU said these actions "would make Ohio the most restrictive state in the country with respect to evidence-based health care."
As a mother of 3 and trans ally, reading that headline sent chills down my spine.
This is why we are here. This is why we fight. Vote Mama is here because we know that moms are incredible advocates for our children and neighbors when their freedoms are on the line.
