Hi John,[]([link removed][]([link removed]
There are lots of words to describe Greg Abbott, some of which I can’t use in polite company. But “subtle” has never been one of them.
Earlier today, Governor Abbott tried to defend his illegal border policies with a sentence that makes Charles Manson look reasonable in comparison:
“The only thing that we’re not doing is we’re not shooting people who come across the border, because of course the Biden administration would charge us with murder.”
— Governor Greg Abbott
Yep — **[that’s exactly what Greg Abbott said]([link removed]
The best that can be said for Greg Abbott is that he — just barely — drew the line against murdering immigrants. Not because that would be horrific and wrong beyond words, but because he would be charged with murder and convicted in no time flat.
**We can always trust Governor Abbott not to murder people if he thinks he’ll be prosecuted for it. What a guy!**
If the best that Governor Abbott can say about his immigration policies is “at least we didn’t murder anyone,” we’ve reached a serious crisis as a country.
**That Governor Abbott believes murder could even *conceivably* be an acceptable border strategy — but for those pesky Biden officials and their anti-murder views — shows that we’ve reached a crisis point as a country.**
It’s hard to imagine any previous American or Texas leader — at any point in our history — acting like Governor Abbott just did.
Richard Nixon wasn’t a model of statesmanship. He tried to cover up his own wrongdoing by obstructing the Watergate investigation; he abused his office and systemically violated the rights of Americans; and he ultimately resigned rather than face an impeachment trial.
But even when President Nixon basically closed the Mexican border, he didn’t suggest that killing immigrants was a good way to do so. He certainly didn’t claim that he should be applauded because he didn’t slaughter people trying to enter the country.
[]([link removed] a moment in the old Scooby Doo cartoons when the bad guy complains that he “would have gotten away with it too ... if it weren’t for you meddling kids.”
Governor Abbott knows that he can’t get away with murdering immigrants. Now it’s time for us meddling mothers and others to make clear that he and his like-minded Republican colleagues can’t get away with saying that murder was ever an option.
Mothers and others like us are leading the charge on Election Day 2024 to elect leaders who will represent us with honesty and integrity; who will fight for the issues that matter to Texas families; and who don’t think indiscriminate murder might be a good idea.
[**We need your help to fight back against extremism like Governor Abbott just displayed. Anything you can contribute now will give us the support we need to keep that fight going through the November 2024 election and beyond.**]([link removed]

We can do better as a state — and as a country — than murdering immigrants. And the fact that I had to say that means we have a lot of work to do.

[]([link removed] For Democracy / Mothers Against Greg Abbott is **the largest coalition dedicated to defeating the extremist MAGA movement in Texas.** While we don’t agree on every topic, we all agree the Texas GOP isn’t Texas values.
Since 2021, we’ve been helping lead the Democratic resistance in Texas, we’ve organized thousands of local voters and our public issue campaigns have reached millions of Texans in key battleground areas. Now, we’re backed by thousands of Texas parents who are mobilizing in their own neighborhoods to ensure the Texas we hand over to the next generation is better than the one we've inherited.
We’re sick and tired of being linked to a handful of extremist MAGA spokesmen—divisive politicians like Ken Paxton and Ted Cruz. We know it’s going to take all of us to defeat them this election cycle. **The power of mothers and others like us means we know we can do it**: It’s time for democracy to prevail.
100% of our work is powered by individual donations and our average donation is just $23. We can’t stop until our children have the future they deserve. So this election cycle, we’re taking down Ted Cruz and dozens more of his Texas MAGA cronies. With you by our side, we’ll deliver the kind of leadership everyone living in Texas can be proud of.
