Daily Docket — Thursday, Jan. 11

Here are some recent updates.

  • The Louisiana Legislature will begin a special session next week to consider major changes to the state Supreme Court and redraw the state’s congressional map after a court ruled the current map violates the Voting Rights Act.

  • Michigan's independent redistricting commission asked the U.S. Supreme Court to pause a decision striking down certain state House and Senate districts for racial gerrymandering and block new maps from being implemented.

  • During last night’s Republican presidential debate on CNN, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley voiced her support for anti-voting measures, such as requiring voter ID, implementing signature matching and counting all ballots on Election Day.

Here’s what to expect coming up.

  • On Monday, the presidential primaries will kick off with the Iowa Caucuses. As evidenced by Haley’s comments at the debate last night, the Republican candidates are united against democracy. Read our in-depth guide on each candidate’s record on voting rights here.
