Pushing Back on Congressional Hostility to Immigrants
This morning, the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration held a hearing about the “Impact of Illegal Immigration on Social Services.” This is just the latest example of Congressional dysfunction on immigration. CLASP responded by releasing a detailed statement noting, “Immigrants in the U.S. have made and continue to make fundamental contributions to this nation’s economy and social well-being. Restricting immigrants from safety net programs like SNAP, housing programs, and Medicaid harms society and public health at large.”

CLASP and Data for Progress conducted a national survey of likely voters to examine attitudes toward the workplace, workplace surveillance, and support for expanding benefits for gig workers.

Medicaid Unwinding Leads to Churn, Backlogs, and Delayed Services in Many States
More than 12 million people were disenrolled from Medicaid in 2023 as states returned to normal operations after the end of pandemic-era protections. We expect continued disenrollments in 2024, creating a loss of Medicaid coverage and other ripple effects.

Equal Play, Unequal Pay: Race-Conscious Admissions and the Systemic Exploitation of Black Male Athletes
This report argues that selective colleges have disproportionately used athletics to enroll Black men and that such actions will become more prevalent in the wake of the Supreme Court’s 2023 rulings. The report also outlines strategies for policymakers and educational leaders to assist postsecondary institutions in better enrolling and serving Black male undergraduates.
