Working Families Party

John,

We’re hitting the ground running in the new year, with endorsements, WFP champs taking office, new GOTV efforts, and more.

Check out your first WFP newsletter of 2024 for a look at the fight ahead!

WFP champions take office across the country

Eight WFP champions in Virginia were sworn into their new legislative offices this week, following major victories that helped flip full control of the state legislature and will help put a stop to Governor Glenn Youngkin’s anti-abortion, right-wing agenda in 2024.

Their swearings-in follow the newly-elected Philadelphia City Councilmember Nicolas O’Rourke and the re-elected Councilmember Kendra Brooks — whose historic victories prevented Republicans from being handed the council’s minority party seats for the first time ever, and made Kendra the council’s first third-party minority party leader.

Many more WFP champions across the country have also taken office since November, including (but not limited to!) our entire NYC City Council slate, Pennsylvania’s new Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato, and Connecticut’s new Mayor of Danbury Roberto Alves.

These victories were only possible because of people like you giving your time, energy, and resources to support our grassroots movement and the transformative leaders who want to make our government work for the many, not the few.

Our 2024 champions

This year, AIPAC and other right-wing billionaires and super PACs are planning to spend $100 million trying to unseat WFP champions fighting tirelessly in Congress to make a better country for us all.

But we’re ready to throw down hard to defend our congressional champions, and we’re proud to officially endorse Reps. Jamaal Bowman, Cori Bush, Summer Lee, Ilhan Omar, Delia Ramirez, and Rashida Tlaib in their 2024 races. Already, several of these candidates are facing primary challengers funded by right-wing billionaires. Together, our grassroots movement can show that organized people can beat organized money.

We’re also supporting new candidates for Congress who we know will fight for policies that allow our communities to thrive, including Sue Altman in NJ-07, Raquel Terán in AZ-03, and California’s Barbara Lee for US Senate.

And in Michigan, we have two champions running in special elections for the state legislature — Mai Xiong and Layla Taha. With their primaries just a few weeks away on January 30, we’re activating to help elect these strong progressives and win control of the State House.

Can you pitch in to help defend our amazing champions, take back the House, and elect bold leaders nationwide?

2024 Get Out the Vote effort sends nearly 30,000 postcards

Over the last few months, supporters like you joined our sibling organization Working Families Power to send nearly 30,000 postcards to their loved ones wishing them a happy new year and empowering them to take action for our democracy in 2024.

Our movement is building a powerful network of friends, family, neighbors, and more who are ready to strengthen our democracy by reaching the people in their lives about what they stand for and how much is at stake.

Sending postcards is one of the fastest and easiest ways to make a real difference in pivotal elections — will you join the 10,000 Strong to Get Out the Vote team to stay up to date on postcard opportunities this year?

Supporters beat 2023 end of year fundraising goal

Last month, we announced an ambitious end of year fundraising goal to reach $30,000 in online donations — matched by a generous individual donor.

WFP members answered the call and exceeded our goal, providing us with the resources we need to start 2024 strong.

Thank you!

If you wanted a free Eat the Rich sticker but missed the end of year deadline, no worries! Donate any amount here before midnight tomorrow, Friday, January 12, and we’ll send you the sticker as thanks.

Check if your representative is calling for a ceasefire now

Since October, an estimated 1 in 100 people in Gaza have been killed. We reaffirm our demands for an immediate ceasefire to save as many lives as possible, and call on our elected officials to do the same.

To see if your representatives have joined the fight, check out our ceasefire tracker here.

If they haven’t, use our online letter tool now to ask your representative to help save lives by calling for a ceasefire today.

Watch our end of year video recap

2023 was… a lot, and our WFP National Director Maurice Mitchell has some thoughts he’d like to share with you. Check out our end of year video recap here.

Hear WFP National Director Maurice Mitchell’s vision for the Working Families Party

Last month, Maurice spoke with the American Urban Radio Networks about how WFP fits into the political landscape, how to keep up the momentum and the fight, and how everyone can make a difference. Check out the interview here.

Maurice: “We’ve been able to upset political norms by challenging people who have grown way too comfortable with inequality, way too comfortable with political corruption.”

We’re so grateful to you for sticking with us year by year to build the party and the country of our dreams.

To help keep up the fight heading into 2024’s crucial elections, can you make a contribution now? We’ll send you a free Eat the Rich sticker with a donation of any amount.

Pitch in

In solidarity,

Team WFP
