Hey friends, I’ll be honest - for Democrats like me running for reelection, last night’s Republican presidential primary debate really kicked 2024 into high gear.
Just look at what Democrats are up against - a deep-pocketed national Republican Party throwing its weight around to enact their extreme policies, like a nationwide abortion ban and climate change denialism.
But the most chilling part of the debate was what was happening over on a different channel - Donald Trump’s Fox News Town Hall.
Here’s just a small portion of what the former president had to say:
- He called the overturning of Roe v. Wade “a miracle.”
- He doubled down on a senseless comment from earlier this week, saying he hopes our country enters a recession this year.
- And he yet again promised to rule as a dictator on Day One if he’s elected in November.
Look, this stuff is ridiculous, not to mention offensive - and I know that at this point, it’s hard to even be surprised by anything that comes out of Trump’s mouth, let alone spurred to take action.
But this man is the frontrunner to be the Republican nominee for president, so we ignore him at our own peril.
Donald Trump has a very real grip on the Republican Party, so we’re going to have to push - in my race and in so many key races all across the country - to win in 2024 and protect our democracy from a future with a criminal in the White House and a GOP-controlled Congress.
That’s why I have to ask: Will you donate $5, $10, $15, or whatever is meaningful to you to help me build a strong reelection campaign and support Democrats around the country?
Trump’s continued popularity is concerning for so many reasons, not least of which is that he serves as fuel for extreme candidates like my opponent to jump into races, even when their beliefs are too far-right for most Americans.
In order to take back our country from Trump and candidates like him, Democratic candidates like myself need to deliver resounding victories at the ballot box.
I need you to help me fend off my MAGA opponent and support other like-minded Democratic candidates in the coming months. Can you chip in any amount today?
