Today is my father’s birthday, and to celebrate the day and him, I continue to work hard — day in and day out — for the Virginians I serve. It may sound cheesy, but the truth is that it is my father — a veteran and career law enforcement officer — who instilled in me a deep devotion to our country and an abiding commitment to service.
Throughout my own years in public service — first in law enforcement, then at CIA, and now in Congress, my father has been a steady and calm source of support.
When I swore my first oath to our Constitution, it was my father who proudly handed me my badge and credentials. When I disappeared for weeks at a time for CIA training, it was my father who never asked questions but assuaged my mother’s concerns! And when I first decided to run for Congress in a district that hadn’t elected a Democrat since 1968, it was my father who said he knew that if I worked hard enough, I would win. As I now run for Governor, I am grateful to have his support and guidance.

Since my first campaign, he has knocked thousands of doors, and he’s provided me with simple and yet valuable counsel: do what you know is right.
I am running for Governor to do what is right and to serve the people of Virginia. We are working hard to build out a strong campaign, and in honor of my father’s birthday – will you support my campaign?
