Each year, hundreds of thousands of people around the world are robbed of their freedom and dignity through force and coercion.
These victims are often those on the margins of society – children fleeing abusive households, people with disabilities, non-english speakers, and unhoused LGBTQ+ youth.
Today is National Human Trafficking Awareness Day, Community.
Each year, hundreds of thousands of people around the world are robbed of their freedom and dignity through force and coercion.
These victims are often those on the margins of society — children fleeing abusive households, people with disabilities, non-english speakers, and unhoused LGBTQ+ youth.
They are targeted for how vulnerable they are — financially, physically, and emotionally.
There is no easy solution to human trafficking, it’s complex and will require a multi-pronged solution.
But one clear way we can work to end human trafficking today is by ensuring we provide a robust social safety net and prevent people from falling through the cracks.
That’s why I am reaching out today — to share resources we have available at the County including: food assistance, housing and homelessness solutions, mental health treatment, care for older adults and seniors, and more.
I will fight tooth and nail to protect and expand our County’s social services so that San Diegans have the resources they need.
And I will work with County and City officials to make sure we are taking a multi-pronged approach to fighting human trafficking in San Diego County.
Together, we can keep every member of our Community safe.
