Dear Neighbors,
Happy New Year! I hope you were able to take time during the holiday season to celebrate with family, friends, and loved ones.
We are one month away from the start of the 2024 legislative session, and it is sure to be another busy year in St. Paul as I work hard to fix a lot of bills that were passed too quickly by legislative majorities in the House and Senate.
State economists recently released the February budget forecast, revealing a projected deficit in 2025. This news adds a complicating factor to this year?s legislative session and for that reason, I do not expect much new spending to be approved this year.
I do expect a reasonable bonding bill focused on building and maintaining public infrastructure to be considered. This would be aimed at helping rural communities upgrade water treatment facilities, provide fixes to sewer systems, and improve roads and bridges.
Finally, I recorded a brief video discussing more about the upcoming legislative session and the $730 million State Office Building renovation. You can watch that here or by clicking the photo below.
As always, I will work hard to make sure that the voices of you, your family, and Kandiyohi County are heard loud and clear in St. Paul. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.
Have a great day,
Dave?
