Let Congress know where you stand on the immigration policy debate.

Dear John,

The stakes could not be higher.

You may have seen in the news that Senate negotiators are close to a deal which could lead to the harshest changes to immigration law in nearly 30 years. But negotiators are still arguing over the details of these potential policy changes—and it’s not too late to have your voice heard.

Some members of Congress are demanding extreme immigration restrictions in exchange for passing military funding for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, federal support for state and local communities which have opened their doors to migrants, and resources for the asylum system. They want to implement a Title-42 style policy that would block asylum seekers from accessing protection at the border, among other draconian policies that would result in cruelty and chaos.

With the pressure on, there is a risk that the White House and Democrats in Congress will agree to some devastating changes to immigration policy to pass a supplemental funding bill that makes no lasting positive changes to our humanitarian protection systems.

History has shown that similar harsh enforcement policies won’t achieve what the administration says it wants: to reduce the number of people coming to our borders. Instead, they will create both cruelty and chaos.

It’s not too late to stop the deal. Most members of Congress aren’t involved in the talks and don’t understand just how harmful these changes would be, or how there are meaningful alternatives that they should be embracing instead.

But every hour counts. Senators need to hear from the public NOW that these policies are unacceptable and that they should focus on improving the system, not destroying it.
