As we enter 2024, we’re up against a right-wing machine that has poured millions of dollars into restricting voter access, attacking election administration, and subverting the will of voters.
And before you can defeat someone, you have to understand them. You have to know what they’re aiming to achieve and how they operate. That’s why we’ve analyzed the anti-voter extremists we face — so we can get the better of them.
Here’s what Fair Fight has identified as the three core prongs of the anti-voter playbook, according to our latest monitoring:
1. Pushing access to the ballot as far out of reach as possible through mass voter challenges and aggressive voter purges, reduced polling locations and hours, limiting mail ballot and dropbox access, and other restrictions that disproportionately burden voters of color.
2. Attacking election administration from every angle. This includes burdening election workers and Boards of Elections (BOEs) with an endless barrage of unfunded mandates passed by anti-voter state legislators, pushing anti-voter conspiracy theorists onto BOEs, and emerging attempts to privatize so-called “list maintenance” through new and unreliable software like EagleAI.
3. Attempting to subvert or undo the will of voters via attacks on certification, the proliferation of sham “audits” designed to cast doubt on election results, state takeovers of local BOEs, and laws like Georgia’s SB 92 that strip power from elected officials and deny voters a voice in the way their communities are governed.
