Parents and pastors who don’t support ‘gender transition’ threatened with 7 years’ jail

Dear supporter,

The Scottish Government has released its plan for a new law against so-called conversion practices. Similar laws could follow in the rest of the UK and Ireland.

We are studying the detail of the 86-page document and have already instructed top human rights specialist Aidan O’Neill KC to advise on the proposals. But it is immediately clear that the shocking plans could criminalise many loving parents, diligent teachers and faithful church leaders.

Parents who don’t go along with their gender-confused child’s wish to identify as the opposite sex risk seven years in jail. So too church ministers who uphold the Bible’s teaching on sexual ethics in their pastoral work.

And in a truly Orwellian move, a court could pre-emptively impose draconian restrictions via civil orders. There is even a risk of this happening based merely on the word of an LGBT activist.

This goes far beyond tackling coercion and abuse. This is a massive intrusion into free speech, family life and religious liberty of the sort attempted under the notorious ‘named person’ scheme – with criminal sanctions.

The Christian Institute won that case against the Scottish Government unanimously in the Supreme Court. We are ready to take legal action once again. In the meantime, we will be sending guidance to our supporters in Scotland on how to respond to the consultation in the most effective way.
