John –
The IRC recently released the 2024 Emergency Watchlist. It's a report we prepare every year using data — and the expertise and observations of our colleagues — to identify the 20 countries most at risk of new or worsening humanitarian emergencies.
I wanted to be sure you got a copy, John, and I hope you'll read it. Here's why:
→ You are an important partner and we want to keep you informed about where we see our work going in the year ahead — and where we will need your support.
→ You'll see information you might not see anywhere else. For example, Sudan is the number one country on the 2024 Emergency Watchlist. Over 6.6 million people have been forced to flee their homes, yet the crisis has so far received relatively little international attention.
→ We share innovative solutions that you are helping to support. As our President and CEO David Miliband said in an interview recently: "The greatest renewable fuel of all is hope." And in our experience, nothing fills up our supply of hope better than focusing on the actions big and small we are all taking to make a difference.
Ultimately, that's what the Emergency Watchlist is all about — transforming awareness into global action.
This report also helps us plan where to focus our work so we can respond faster and more efficiently during a crisis — and ultimately help more families through the most difficult moments of their lives.
Thank you for being part of our global community supporting refugees and displaced families, John. We don't take your generous steadfast support for granted.
