The opportunity to work with and give back to Veterans led me to the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA). My dad is a Veteran of the South Korean Army and served during the Korean War. As a second-generation Asian American, I am grateful for the life I have in America because of the sacrifices of those who have served. Additionally, my first career choice growing up was to be a nurse. Personally, and professionally, it is an honor to work in a healthcare-related organization that cares for and supports Veterans.
Since my job interview in summer 2022 to present day, I have been impressed with MDVA?s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility (DEIA). MDVA has quality initiatives focused on equity ranging from ending Veteran homelessness to focusing on inclusion and a sense of belonging in the workplace through an employee wellness program. MDVA?s focus on an accessible workplace has resulted in a workforce where nearly 15% of employees identify as individuals with a disability, higher than the state?s average.
Best of all, MDVA epitomizes the strength and beauty of diversity whether it be our geographical locations spanning up north at our Bemidji Veterans Home to the southeast bluffs at our Preston State Veterans Cemetery; the variety of career opportunities in benefits, healthcare and administration; or the many faces of MDVA representing cultures from around the world. MDVA is truly a great place to work!
