Resources to Help You Help Your Loved One

Vaping and marijuana were two of the most popular topics for our community in 2023. Our experts are constantly updating existing guides and creating new materials to answer questions that emerge in these areas.

Protecting youth from vaping

Vaping has become one of the most popular forms of substance use among young people, despite growing evidence of its health risks and harms. As parents and caregivers, we want to do all we can to protect our children from the negative effects vaping can have on a young person’s developing brain.

What’s new: Our Vaping Guide ([link removed] ) has been updated with statistics from 2023 and information on vaping products that are gaining popularity.

Topics included in our Vaping Guide:

- What substances are being vaped
- How teens are accessing vape products
- Health risks and injuries associated with vaping
- Signs a child may be vaping and how to safeguard against it
- What can parents do if their child is vaping

How to talk to a loved one about substances

- Not to lecture – try to listen and understand their perspective
- Be clear about your position
- Let them know that this is a health concern
- Avoid focusing on punishment
