Dear John,
On behalf of the Board of Directors of Americans United for Life, I am honored and grateful to start 2024 with an exciting update about AUL. Our Board has enthusiastically voted to appoint John Mize as our new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). John is a strategic leader and nonprofit executive who will lead the AUL team in advancing the human right to life in culture, law, and policy.
Our decision to hire John comes after an extensive search process that began back in July 2023. We had a broad pool of candidates from many different backgrounds. We narrowed down our candidates through a thorough interview process, assessments with an outside consultant, and conversations with references.
The board was impressed by John's strong leadership skills, his fundraising expertise, and his passion for the pro-life movement. Most recently, Mize has worked as executive vice president of business development at the New York-based Crohn's & Colitis Foundation. He is a board member at Mental Health America and a committee member at the Richmond West End auxiliary of YoungLife.
In anticipation of the new role, John stated, “I am honored to have been selected to lead Americans United for Life. AUL is an amazing organization with an exceptionally rich history and a future as bright as America itself. Our mission, purpose, and team are strong, and I’m eager to help write AUL’s next chapter. We will connect with Americans from coast to coast to grow AUL and deliver the positive impact necessary for Americans everywhere to thrive. Together, we will shape truly life-affirming culture, law, and policy for the betterment of every member of the human family.”
John will join the organization on Tuesday, January 16.
We believe that this new era is off to a strong start with John's leadership, with our incredibly competent staff team, and with support and advocacy from people like you. We are grateful for you and your partnership in advancing our mission in the cause of life.
